Hongkong, 26th June 1902.

To His Majesty Edward VII., by the Grace of God, of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions beyond the seas, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India.

Your Majesty, -- While from every part of your vast dominions greetings are flowing in to the foot of your throne, on the solemn and auspicious occasion of your Coronation, I feel it a pleasant duty, to tender you, on behalf of the Catholics of Hongkong, of their clergy and religious congregations, my sincerest congratulations.

Since the Island came under British sway, the Catholics like every other section of its heterogeneous population have been steadily growing in numbers and prosperity, constituting now an important item in the colony's ranks, with their schools, Colleges and varied Institutions.

This success, this prosperity, they owe to the liberty and protection they enjoy under a just and enlightened Government, and voicing their sentiments, I promise your Majesty that we shall always feel grateful for such blessings and ever comport ourselves as your faithful and loyal subjects.

Your worthy Consort, Queen Alexandra, the emulator of the great virtues of the late lamented Queen Victoria, I would also like to be the recipient of our salutations and good wishes.

Long may your Majesties wear the brightest crown of the world, for the happiness of your people and the good of mankind, is the prayer of your faithful and loyal subjects, the Catholics of Hongkong.

+ John Baptist Piozzoli Bishop of Glazone, Vicar Apostolic of the Roman Catholics in Hongkong.
